Clogs

“The flat sound of my wooden clogs on the cobblestones, deep, hollow and powerful, is the note I seek in my painting”
Paul Gauguin

Clogs are shoes originally made from the wood of the trees that were native to the area. We associate clogs with the Scandanavians but they were worn by many people in and around Europe as working shoes. There are two types of clogs- the ever-popular full on wooden and the wooden sole and leather upper. They have recently become nauseating popular with the rubber version called Crocs or any of the other spin offs out there. You can't really clog dance with these overly mass produced glops of rubber. I have to admit they do look cute on toddlers- and they can put them on all by themselves. What does this have to do with art??
